Beeldspraak in rechts-extreme tijdschriften
- Jan Bosman
Abstract
Freudian slips of the tongue are often used to draw sweeping conclusions about the speaker. The same applies to metaphors. Forceville (1987) refers to metaphors as ’the starting point for the analysis of non-explicit parts of a text’. However, the derivation of the non-explicit meaning of metaphors raises a number of methodological problems. In this article we examine the metaphors employed in a number of Dutch extreme right-wing magazines. We investigate whether there is a special relation between these metaphors and the right-wing ideology. Our results suggest that the focus of metaphor research should shift from interpretative to methodological aspects.
