Abstract

In this article the background and development of fundamental research into the determinants of the public’s interest in government information is sketched, and the research question and strategy for identifying these determinants are formulated. It should be clear that a broadly based theory regarding the manner in which individuals acquire and process information is necessary. This theory, presented in the form of a conceptual model, is to be later empirically tested. The background and premises of this multidisciplinary study, and in particular those premises derived from the field of communication, will be referred to in brief in this article.
