Über den ethnischen Witz: zu einer Form unmittelbarer, alltäglicher und zumerst öffentlich verdeckt bleibender Kommunikationsformen
- Richard Albrecht
Abstract
Following some previous papers of his the author of this piece tries to work out the basic social context of ethnic humour, wits, and slurs- a specific sort of wit and humour which still does exist within every European society today. This essay emphasizes, first of all, the relevant economic, political, and cultural functions of this sort of slurs- a specific aspect of stigmatisation and marginalisation, e.g. in our days concerning above all labour-migrants to European metropoles. Moreover, this essay wants to stimulate further theoretical and empirical research work on direct, oral, and spontaneous forms of communication like wit, rumour, and gossip - all of these forms of communication of the masses somehow ’’archaic”, which should not be neglected by media and communication scientists even in our age of high-tech-mass-media.
