Abstract
Traditional news media have come under severe pressure due to technological, economic, and societal changes. At the same time, they have also become part of various societal struggles, and are contested from different sides. They are accused of bias, distrusted as part of a larger conspiracy, or simply seen as too negative. In this Dossier — as we call a small thematic issue of Tijdschrift Sociologie — we delve deeper into all these developments. We bring you six contributions: two research articles, two essays, and two critical reflections on the 2024 Reuters Digital News Report. Enjoy!
