Abstract
This is an essay dialing with the platonic elements in two novels with some reputation in the history of modem literature in the Low Countries: De trap van steen en -wolken (The Stairs of Stone and Clouds) by the Flemish author Johan Daisne, first published in 1942, during the Second World War, and De reis naar Kithira (The Journey to Kithira) by the Dutch feminist writer Andreas Bumier, which appeared in 1976.
