Griekse beginselen en victoriaanse vriendschappen
- Hein Van Dolen
Abstract
Since the last two decades of the twentieth century the views on ancient Greek homosexuality are adjusted or even changed. The dialogues of Plato have defined the image of the ‘Greek love’ or ‘pederasty’ for many generations of scholars. His ambivalent opinions can also be found in the writings of the so-called Victorian authors, particularly John Addington Symmonds (1840-1883). The life, influence and books of this pioneering thinker will come up in this article.
