Abstract

This paper examines whether any change can be observed in the attitude of young people towards immigrants. The data were collected in Flanders at three points in time (spring 1991,1992 and 1994) among 20-21-year-olds. A general analysis of the social context plus findings from earlier research are not sufficient to enable a clear projection to be formulated regarding such a change in attitude. The analysis was carried out using simultaneous latent class analysis. According to the results of this analysis there are few indications of any change having taken place in the attitude of young people. The level of education of the young people interviewed is the feature which exhibits the strongest correlation with their attitude to immigrants.
