Abstract
Since the financial crisis of 2008, the international literature on neoliberalism is booming. Despite the ubiquity of neoliberalism as a topic in Dutch public debate, Dutch academia thus far seems to be an exception to the trend. This introduction reflects on the relative scarcity of Dutch academic literature on neoliberalism, provides a brief overview of recent developments in the international literature and proposes a historicalsociological approach to study neoliberalism, with particular emphasis on the pivotal role of ideas and their translation into policy practices.
