Abstract

The  article describes the anatomical structure of the wood of Protea  madiensis Oliv., belonging to the Proteaceae  family which mainly occupies the African and Australian part of the southern  hemisphere. Specifically, its wide rays are well preserved in archeological  and prehistorical charcoal samples. In addition, it is a strong ecological  indicator for a savanna environment. Together, these two facts make this  species a significant contributor to paleoenvironmental studies.
