Biography
Catherine Van de Heyning is a public prosecutor in the cybercrime division of the public ministry of Antwerp (Belgium) where she is the focal point for image-based sexual abuse. In addition, she is professor fundamental rights law at the University of Antwerp where is specialises in the impact of digitalisation on the protection of human rights in criminal justice. In recent years she conducted several interdisciplinary studies in image-based sexual abuse. In that capacity, Catherine has been nominated as expert in the advisory committee to the UN Human Rights Council. She is currently rapporteur for the report on technology-facilitated violence against women and girls and co-rapporteur on disinformation and human rights to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council.
