Zoeken naar Globale Moraal: een kritische beschouwing van het project Weltethos van Hans Küng

Samenvatting

This article offers a critical appraisal of the project 'Weltethos' of the Swiss theologian Hans Küng. The aim of his project is the formulation of universally valid moral principles. As a result of ethical investigations and interreligious dialogues Küng draws up four basic, fixed and universal human responsibilities: the content of Weltethos. After a brief sketch of the birth of Weltethos, a few critical remarks will be raised concerning the project. These comments concentrate on two weak spots of Weltethos. Firstly, the formulation of the responsibilities is both ambiguous and biased. Secondly, the formulation of human responsibilities next to human rights is problematic. It will be concluded that Küng's Weltethos-project still leaves the wish for a universally valid moral to be fulfilled.
