Een utilitaristische kijk op de problematiek van de globalisatie
Samenvatting
The "Group of Lissabon" published a report on the limits of competition. The report adds a critical note to the present discussion of global politics. The authors think that enhancing competitiveness is not the key to the great world wide problems of our age such as promoting sustainable development and improving living standards for the impoverished third world population. We intend to evaluate the report by applying to it our standards of applied utilitarian ethics. This system of ethics of international relations is based on a dynamic relationship between "is" and "ought". We must take into account the reality of world politics in proposing ethical standards that are not only in high demand and esteem, but are also capable of being put into effect under the peculiar conditions prevailing in international politics.
